Simple Architecture & Easy to Use: The most striking characteristics of Jeevan is its simplicity and ease of use. Using only three classes, the Database, ObjectSet and Collection, users can develop sophisticated Java applications with minimal programming. It is simple, lightweight, locally embeddable or remotely networkable database.

No Middleware Required:

Application programs written in Java directly store and retrieve objects from Jeevan without any need for middleware such as JDBC driver or any other drivers. Reducing the extra layers of software drivers improves the performance of the system and reduces the system complexity.

Full Featured Database:

Jeevan supports index creation on any field of the objects or any field of the referenced object. A simple yet powerful query API allows objects to be retrieved quickly. Jeevan has built-in object version control mechanism and does not need additional tools or processes for maintaining different object versions in the database. The transaction support with object level locking will be released soon.
 

Embedded Applications: The small footprint (less than 100 KB) makes Jeevan the ideal database for embedding it into hardware devices such as palm top systems or cell phones or into software systems such as mobile agents.

Distributed Applications: Several application topologies are possible with Jeevan. The client-server topology is shown here. Jeevan supports Remote Method Invocation (RMI) protocol, which simplifies creating solutions in a networked environment.

Internet Applications: Jeevan can be easily integrated with a Web server. Jeevan running as a service of a Java Web Server and Jeevan running as a standalone server are planned for near future.

Dynamic Application Modeling Capability: Java is a perfect language for building an Object Oriented model of a real world system. Jeevan exploits this capability of Java and builds database schema directly based on the Java classes defined for the application. There is no need to learn any new schema definition language. The database schema can be altered by dynamically downloading new classes. The relationships between any two objects in the database can be defined dynamically at run time.
